Adamas, of course, is one of the strings favored by Ovation guitars, who actually have an Adamas model of guitar. Adamas makes the following types of strings.
Adamas Bronze Composite Light
Adamas Phosphor Bronze Extra Light,
Adamas Phosphor Bronze Light
Adamas Phosphor Bronze Medium We decided to give the Phosphor Bronze Light a try. It starts with a .012.
Here’s what Adamas has to say about these strings:
Designed from the inside out for balanced performance in tone and feel, Phosphor Bronze wrap wire produces a rich, full sound with even tone throughout the harmonic range, while “Composite Gauging” provides for a set that is consistent in tension and amplitude from string to string. Features”Composite Gauging(TM)” is utilized on the Adamas phosphor bronze and bronze acoustic guitar sets. Significant changes have been engineered into the fifth and sixth strings. These strings utilize core and wrap wire of identical size so that neither part of the string dominates the various modes of string vibration. Thus, the strings vibrate more consistently and with greater amplitude to produce a sharper, more precise tone.
Here’s what we had to say:
These strings are one of two strings preferred by Ovation Guitars. (the other is D’addario). With that endorsement, we were expecting a fine string. This string met our expectations. Again, we weren’t blown away, but it is an overall good string. It does have some unique tonal qualities, especially on the bottom strings where their string technology seems to shine. (See video below for a description of that string wrapping process).
These strings kept their tone, and we had no durability problems. Many players swear by these strings. James Taylor is known to use them. Definitely a very solid string. Of course, what makes them even better is that you can get them for about 4 bucks. When you combine the price with the quality, these are definitely a string to reckon with.
